Brisbane’s repository for stylish threads has taken the next step in its taste-making takeover with its new coffee outlet – Cafe Contra. Nestled inside the Wintergarden, Cafe Contra is taking a similarly bespoke approach to its output as its fashionable sibling by offering some out of the box options such as iced matcha lattes and peppermint sparkling iced tea.

Coffee cravers in the inner city were gobsmacked when Gramercy Espresso shut up shop in early 2017, but the cafe’s shoes have now been filled by the stylish soles of the boys from Contra. The team behind one of the City’s best outfitters has expanded the brand beyond slick threads to offer one of the most important on-the-go accessories – coffee. Brothers Tasfeen and Taskeen Hassan are the owners and operators of Cafe Contra (along with Matt Kyte who oversees the boutique), drawing upon Taskeen’s hospitality experience and Tasfeen’s commerce and business know-how to open the sleek dispensary.

The Hassan brothers have enlisted Noosa-based Clandestino Roasters as its sole java supplier, installing a brand new machine and grinders to bring the best out of the popular roast. In addition to your lattes and long blacks, Cafe Contra is breaking the cafe mould by offering some unique beverages such as iced matcha lattes, peppermint sparkling iced tea and Vietnamese iced coffee. These drinks go beyond your regular pour-and-go – the cold-brew tea is steeped for 12 hours (24 hours for cold-brew coffee) in alkaline-free Icelandic Water, while certain drinks are topped with the likes of salted raspberry foam for a distinct mixology twist. Soon Cafe Contra will be stocking a range of croissants, pain au chocolat and danishes to munch on the move.

Cafe Contra is open seven days – find all the details you need in the Stumble Guide.
