Mighty Mighty opens Buffalo Bar in Brisbane City

The heritage-listed city building that housed the Belgian Beer Cafe for ten years is now the new go-to for US craft beer and American chow. Meet the Buffalo Bar.

American fare has wrestled itself under the culinary spotlight in Brisbane of late, with tender chunks of meat and smoky sauces filling gobs and smearing faces – and the grub on offer at Brisbane City’s new Buffalo Bar is right on point. Brought to you by the food-loving folks who hatched up Fortitude Valley’s epic Mighty Mighty cue & brew, this all-American bar and restaurant officially opened its doors yesterday. The grand hulk of a building sitting on the corner of Edward and Mary Streets – which was formerly inhabited by the Belgian Beer Cafe for a stein-swigging decade – has now been seized by Mighty Mighty’s iconic urban cowboy, Hank. The internal lounge bar offers an ambient spot to recline with an American whisky or specialty cocktail, while the beer garden out the back was made for summer afternoons and US craft beer on tap.

Mighty Mighty may have stayed true to its southern heritage, but the Buffalo Bar menu ventures further afield, nabbing dishes from across the continent to present an eclectic catalogue of carnivorous delights. Owner Simon O’Brien and group head chef Adam Herbert treat their guests to hearty belly fillers like cold-smoked and charred chicken marinated in Blue Star Wheat Beer, tender beef brisket mopped with molasses barbecue sauce, and crispy fried duck on house-made waffles. Sink your teeth into a ten-inch hoagie baguette for lunch, get your seafood fix with a New England clam bake, sample 18 signature styles of buffalo wings, or indulge in a bowl of jalapeno poppers with blue cheese and buttermilk dipping sauce.

Buffalo Bar is also getting into the Thanksgiving spirit today with an offer to try their buffalo wings for free between 12:00–4:00 pm. For venue contact information and trading hours, check out our Stumble Guide.
