Since its 2016 opening, Brouhaha has made some serious waves in the Australian craft-brewing scene. What started as a passion project for Sunshine Coast mates Julian, Jeff, Dave and Matt – who set out to build a modest, no-fuss brewery – has grown enormously, much more than they could have ever imagined. After receiving numerous awards and gaining a seriously loyal following, Brouhaha soon outgrew its humble Maleny digs. Friday December 17 marked the beginning of a new chapter for the brewery with the opening of a second location in Baringa – with the capacity to increase production by 500 percent.

For the Brouhaha team, national recognition for its range of brews has been a long-time dream. While the craft brewery has been able to achieve remarkable feats in its five years at Maleny, it was becoming very clear that an expansion was desperately needed. At the beginning of 2021, for example, the demand for Brouhaha beers was six times higher than what the team was able to produce for its current stockists. It was decided to bring operations down the mountain a little closer to sea level, at a location just inland of Caloundra at Aura Business Park in Baringa. Turning the project around in a mind-blowingly short six months, the team opened the doors to its second location, Brouhaha Sunshine Coast, late last week.

Brouhaha Sunshine Coast is spread over an impressive 1500-sqm open-plan industrial space, complete with a world-class double-storey tap room, two mezzanine levels, a brewers lab, 16 taps, custom kettles and automatic canning facilities. The mammoth new location has been custom-built specifically with Brouhaha’s range in mind and is set to expand operations by 500 percent – producing an incredible 1.25-million litres of beer per year, which will lead to nation-wide distribution in the coming months. In addition to increased operating facilities, Brouhaha Sunshine Coast offers an immersive sensory experience for patrons, allowing them to look out over the entire brewery as they sip their suds, watching the action in awe – from the 35-hectolitre brew kit to the tanks and packaging lines. Speaking of sips, across the 16 taps you can expect to find Brouhaha’s core range of craft beers and sours, as well as a rotating selection of pilot batch brews that will continue to be produced at the Maleny facility. A selection of beer-inspired cocktails, artisan spirits and Queensland wine will also be on offer, alongside a locally sourced bar-snack menu of cheese boards and pretzels, and rotating food trucks from Friday to Sunday.

Brouhaha Sunshine Coast is open now at 1 Edison Crescent, Baringa. Fans of the OG needn’t fear – Brouhaha’s Maleny brewery and restaurant will remain in action, with the brewery acting as an experimental pilot lab for seasonal creations and limited-release beers.
