Brooklyn Depot brings its mammoth burgers to South Bank

Start spreadin’ the news – New York-style eats have arrived at South Bank. After opening stores in Surfers Paradise and Sydney, Brooklyn Depot has ventured north to Brisbane, bringing with it juicy burgers, loaded hot dogs and double waffle ice-cream sandwiches. You read correctly. Double. Waffle. Ice-cream. Sandwiches.

TWE-BrooklynDepot-01The space
Many a heated thing has been said in a moment of hunger-induced anger (we are calling it hanger). If you’re walking into Brooklyn Depot with an empty stomach never fear, the neon sign on the wall will pre-emptively apologise for anything you might say before you eat. The burger joint has found a home at South Bank, taking over the Grey Street spot previously occupied by South Side Diner. Drawing inspiration from – you guessed it – Brooklyn, the breezy space features exposed brick walls, subway signage, and its name all up in lights above the bar.

TWE-BrooklynDepot-02The food and drinks
Burgers are king at Brooklyn Depot, with 13 options on offer. Ease yourself into the menu with the Brooklyn Classic, topped with beef, American cheese, oak leaf lettuce, tomato and Depot special sauce, or jump right into a more serious selection like The Depot Burger, with two beef patties, double American cheese, hickory-smoked bacon, grilled pineapple, salad and special sauce. You’ll also find chicken, pork, turkey and vegetarian options, as well as a monthly rotating special. In case you’re curious, the current special is the Fuhgeddaboudit, filled with beef patty, beef chilli, American cheese, onion rings, chilli relish and your choice of hot sauce – mild, medium, hot or … fuhgeddaboudit. In true American style, the menu also features loaded hot dogs, wings, ribs and a plethora of shares and sides such as mac ‘n’ cheese, onion rings and chicken lollipops. We know what you’re thinking – when are you getting to the double waffle ice-cream sandwich? Okay – it’s two maple-flavoured waffles sandwiched around vanilla bean ice-cream, topped with chocolate drizzle, fresh strawberries and icing sugar, and is one of three dessert options. To wash it all down go for a thick hand-spun milkshake (you can spike it too!) or select from the extensive bar offering.
