Bee the change at Brookie's Bees & Cheese Workshop

Bee the change at Brookie’s Bees & Cheese Workshop

We don’t mean to get all doom and gloom on you but in the last five years, the bee population has dropped by a third and, according to The Threads For Change, if bees were to cease to exist, humans would have four years left to live. So, while they may be small, bees are indeed mighty and imperative to our way of life. If you’re keen to learn more about the bees and how you can help them not just survive but thrive, Brookie’s Bees & Cheese Workshop is for you.

Designed to celebrate some of the hardest working locals at Cape Byron Distillery, the native stingless bees, the Bees & Cheese Workshop will include a talk from native bee apiarist Steve Maginnity from The Australian Native Bees Company, local cheese tasting from Deb Allard of Cheeses Loves You and Brookie’s Gin cocktails to sip throughout the session – that’s three of our favourite things! The session will cover topics including what to plant for happy bees, how to care for native bees, how to harvest native-bee honey and how to create cocktails using Brookie’s spirits and sugar bag.

While you’re there, pick yourself up a snazzy We Need Bees Tee from Byron Bay’s The Threads For Change as proceeds from the shirts will go to the Wheen Bee Foundation, whose aim is to keep honeybees healthy, improve pollination efficiency and increase food security. There will be styles for both men and women available on the day. The Bees & Cheese Workshop is on Sunday November 3 at 2:30 pm, if you’re keen to head along, jump over here and nab yourself a ticket.
