The round-up: Prepare yourself for Brisbane’s best heart-stopping desserts

I don’t care what you ate for dinner, there is always room for dessert and if there isn’t then you’ve done it all wrong. We don’t do things in half measures at The Weekend Edition, which is why we have rounded up a selection of Brisbane’s best jaw-dropping, drool-inducing and belt-busting desserts. I’m not kidding –these are the kinds of sweets you skip mains for.

Ze Pickle: The grillers at Ze Pickle already know how to make mind-boggling burgers, but did you know they are dessert maestros as well? The Oreogasm is serious business – deep-fried Oreos in doughnut batter, served with ice cream and liquid Nutella. ‘Nuff said.

Chester Street Bakery: You knew this place was going to be on the list. Chester Street Bakery loves challenging itself when it comes to insane-in-the-membrane treats. Take its new baked rainbow cheesecake or the cookie monster ice-cream cake for example – pure decadence.

Brooklyn Depot: One of Brisbane’s newest burger joints is also bringing the heat with its dessert offering. Try the double waffle ice-cream sandwich, which boasts maple flavoured waffles sandwiched around vanilla bean ice cream topped with chocolate drizzle, fresh strawberries and icing sugar. Ridiculous.

Mister Fitz’s Finest Ice Cream: You’d think that Mister Fitz would be on this list thanks to its staple range of creamy ice-cream sandwiches but no – they’ve got something even better. Swap out the cookies for brownies and you’ve got yourself the Big Papa brownie ice-cream sandwich. It’s a sight to behold, let me assure you.

Buffalo Bar: On top of its gargantuan American BBQ offering, Buffalo Bar also likes to splurge with its desserts. The Snickers Mess plates up delicious peanut butter ice cream, chocolate jelly, Snicker toffee, broken meringue and shaved Snickers. Order two, because you won’t want to share this bad boy.

The Doughnut Bar: Trust The Doughnut Bar to have something crazy up its sleeve – the choc chip cookie dough doughnut cone is exactly as heavenly as you’re imagining. You can find these heavenly treats in the Wintergarden and at Eat Street Markets.

Kwan Brothers: If you can tear yourself away from Doughnut Time long enough to check out the menu at Kwan Brothers, you’d see an impressive selection of desserts. The Super Awesome Deluxe Sundae lives up to its name, boasting vanilla bean ice-cream, crushed chocolate biscuits, salted butter popcorn, caramel sauce, fudge sauce and crushed nuts. Also worth trying is the Brother Kwan’s Ice-Cream Bao, which plates a deep-fried bao bun stuffed with pandan, palm sugar and ginger ice-cream.

World Famous Funnel Cakes: This Eat Street icon has wowed patrons for years with its brand of mega funnel cakes. The latest monster fresh from the kitchen is the funnel cake topped with Nutella, warm salted caramel, Ferrero Rocher, salted caramel brittle and peanuts. I don’t know about you, but my heart just skipped a beat.

Cowch: It’s a no-brainer that a dedicated dessert bar would crank out something extra special from time to time, but Cowch has blown us away with this one. The Smillson Smores Sliders feature toasted marshmallows on warm brioche buns, with melted milk chocolate, crushed oreo and rice bubbles topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. This special will disappear come September, so be sure to move quick on it! If you miss out, Cowch’s banoffee dessert pizza is a menu staple. It features a white chocolate base topped with banana, crumble, whipped cream and salted caramel.

Chocolate Komberry Co.: These guys are nuts in the best way. Check it – Mars Bar ice-cream sandwiches, cronut cones filled with soft serve, cruffins stuffed with nutella and milky bun ice-cream sandwiches. Put a fork in me – I’m done.
