Brisbane Square celebrates spring in the city with some fine fare
It’s time to stop eating ‘al desko’ – throw off that office cardigan and soak up some springtime rays, baby! If you work in the concrete jungle, we highly recommend unchaining yourself from your desk at lunchtime and getting outside to make the most of our swell weather.
Once in a while, it’s okay to ‘forget’ to bring your lunch in to work – we get it, there’s a lot of things more tempting than a Tupperware salad. Instead of venturing into the depths of a food court, you can bask in the sun at Brisbane Square’s collection of eateries, which have recently undergone some delicious changes just in time for spring. First cab of the rank is Meat & Eat, which could be your next lunchtime staple. Now owned and operated by the McFarlane family, Meat & Eat has been overhauled with some fresh menu additions, which complements the carvery-style fare and salads the venue is known for. Breakfast wraps, burgers, fresh juices and grab-and-go sandwiches are now available, in addition to soft baguettes filled with slow-cooked pulled pork, beef and chicken panko schnitzels.
Next door sits the area’s newest eatery Spicy Affair, which proves that variety is the spice of life by fusing Indian and Asian cuisines into one dynamic lunch offering. Traditional dishes such as Vietnamese pho and pad see ew can be enjoyed alongside butter chicken, rogan josh and garlic naan. Established venues Cafe Brisbane and Communal Bar and Eat House, Shingle Inn, The Coffee Club and The Quattro are also celebrating the change of seasons, with new springtime specialties arriving in the coming weeks. Cafe Brisbane’s modern-Australian fare includes the likes of vegan bowls and salads, while Communal Bar and Eat House is a go-to destination for pizzas, burgers and a cheeky knock-off beverage. All venues offer dine-in and takeaway options, so ditch the soggy sanga or unappealing leftovers and get outside.
