Laneway cafes: In-Cog-Neato, Flamingo, Brew

In-Cog-Neato, South Brisbane

It’s been there for a year, but particularly inconspicuous coffee nook In-Cog-Neato has added a little faux grass to its stools. With a recently jazzed up laneway sporting a plethora of vibrant street art and (real greenery) window boxes and hanging plants galore, sip an espresso, nibble on something sweet and relax into this secluded and colourful side space.

Brew Cafe Tapas Bar, Brisbane City

Brew has grown from a coffee machine plonked amidst some astroturf in the corner of a laneway end, to a roaring cafe and bar. Enjoy a coffee on a milk crate in diluted sunshine, or slink into the darkness of the back den for a sneaky lunchtime beer or espresso martinis and tapas.

Flamingo Cafe, Fortitude Valley

A mirage of astroturf, eclectic garden furniture and kitsch s+p shakers resides on the corner of Winn Lane in Fortitude Valley. Renowned for its Green Velvet smoothie (avocado and banana), muffins oozing with chocolate, and bursting-with-flavour meals, Flamingo Cafe is renowned for its flamboyant foodstuffs and atmosphere.
