Find artisan fromage at the Brisbane Cheese Awards
Having your profession described as a cheese expert sounds like a dream come true to an amateur foodie’s ears. But what ranks almost as highly is the ability to attend a masterclass run by said fromage fiend.
At the Brisbane Cheese Awards this weekend, sample a surfeit of Australian cheeses and take a masterclass by cheese connoisseur Will Studd on producing raw milk cheese at home. From pungent blues to creamy camembert, a smorgasbord of free tastings from artisan cheese producers will be on offer, with boutique beers and wines to complement.
Also on the agenda is a masterclass by beer educator Matt Kirkegaard, teaching the art of pairing beer to cheese – an accompaniment often overlooked for wine. A variety of hot cheese will also be available to purchase, like freshly cooked raclette on sourdough with caramelised onions or grilled haloumi with olives.
Queensland’s biggest cheese festival, this gourmet affair is being held at the Portside Wharf at Hamilton on Sunday September 9 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Entry is $10 at the gate, with children under 16 free.
