Beer boutiques: Bitter Suite, Scratch, Archive
Beer. It’s a serious business. Especially now that Brisbane has a few boutique craft beer joints up its sleeves. Supporting independent brewers from our doorstep, around the country and internationally, these unpretentious, un-pub-like watering holes are top spots for acquiring a taste for the finer drops of golden liquid.
The Scratch, Milton
A super relaxed vibe filters through this newest addition to Brisbane’s craft beer locales. Run by three laid-back lads who just love a good brew, The Scratch has its four taps on constant rotation, meaning they can showcase the best, craftiest beers and ciders as soon as they discover them. Try the Prickly Moses Blueberry Hefewizen with the farmhouse cheese board.
Bitter Suite, New Farm
Featuring seven local craft beers on tap, plus 55 (mostly) Australian bottles, Bitter Suite is a favourite for weekend afternoon drinks. With live music, outdoor seating and friendly owners living out their dream, pop in for a chilled-out Rocks Brewing Company IPA and the duck pancakes.
Archive Beer Boutique, West End
Pouring an array of more than 300 local micro-brewery and rare international beers, Archive Beer Boutique is the buzzing older brother of Brisbane’s craft digs. Ask the staff for their latest favourite drop – they’re always sneakily hiding rare brews at the back of the fridge. Laze away a Sunday afternoon sampling the three Mikkeller single-hop IPAs and stay on for the $10 schnitzel.
