Betty’s Espresso Cafe & Bar brings the good times to West End
You may already be familiar with the pink-hued Betty’s Espresso on West End’s Browning Street. After three years of trade, Betty’s has grown to take over the entire upstairs space, extending its offering to become a cafe and neighbourhood bar.
The space
Housed in a quaint West End worker’s cottage, Betty’s Espresso Cafe & Bar gives you the warm and fuzzies from the second you step inside. The interior is a nostalgic dream, complete with candy-pink walls, velvet and corduroy couches to sink into, banana-leaf curtains, and kitsch vessels sprouting tufts of greenery. The yesteryear vibes continue with Betty’s music – an eclectic mix of 90s beats, Northern soul, Southern gothic and blues. The front games room is presided over by a mammoth print of 90s-era Brad Pitt’s face (what a dream), which sits opposite a hand-painted mural of a six-armed siren wielding beverages, muffins and vinyl – a pretty accurate hint of what’s on offer at Betty’s. The food and drink
Espresso has always been Betty’s jam, and you’ll still find its signature selection of coffee and delicious milkshake flavours – we’re looking at you, gingerbread shake. For daytime bites you can snack on toasties, sandwiches, wraps and muffins. On the bar front, Betty’s offers a concise selection of spirits and cocktails (think old-school numbers like espresso and regular martinis, negronis and the Dark and Slimy – The Kraken spiced rum with alcoholic ginger beer). Wine is a key focus of the menu, with an ever-changing selection of new-world and boutique wines, and tinned beers come predominantly from Young Henry’s. You can snack on pretzels, olives, wasabi peas and toasties, and house-brined pickle boards will be available soon.

Betty’s Espresso Cafe & Bar shares its home with Serpent & Siren Tattoo, which lives downstairs. The cafe and bar loves those who love, strongly supporting queer communities and taking a stand against homophobia, racism and sexism. Look out for upcoming events including quarterly drag nights.
