Redirecting your diet to a more wholesome route can often have you feeling like you’re missing out, especially when your pals suggest going out to breakfast and you get stuck watching them chow down on maple-bacon waffles while you poke at a sad-looking bowl of granola. News flash – eating well doesn’t have to be a drag! We’ve rounded up Brisbane’s best healthy breakfast spots that serve up fare so delicious that you won’t even miss your eggs benny.

The Farm Wholefoods: The name of this one gives it away – The Farm Wholefoods has a distinct focus on fresh produce served without the fuss. This fast and casual dining nook takes pride in offering a healthy menu without being fanatical about it, which is perfect for those making their first foray into a healthy diet. Bowls are king here – vegan, bento and burrito are amongst the delightful savoury varieties, or you can opt for an acai or glowing matcha smoothie concoction.

Miss Jones: Have you met Miss Jones? If not, you should acquaint yourself immediately. This bright and breezy pastel paradise exudes good vibes both in food and decor, setting you up for a very positive morning munch. For the ultimate dose of nourishment you can’t go past the green breakfast, which is loaded with spinach, broccolini, kale, quinoa, dukkah, pumpkin and haloumi.

Miss Bliss Whole Foods Kitchen: You’ll have many a mouth bliss moment at Miss Bliss Whole Foods Kitchen. This West End staple serves up a menu that is entirely free from additives, artificial substances and refined sugars, so there’s no such thing as a naughty choice. Don’t let that make you think the food isn’t delicious – how do black sesame waffles with matcha coconut yoghurt, yuzu pearls and lemon balm sound? If you’re over James Street way and need a fix, you can duck into the smaller sibling Miss Bliss Pantry for some nourishing grab-and-go options.

Charlie’s Raw Squeeze: Ask any Brisbane vegan worth their weight in kale where they love to eat and Charlie’s Raw Squeeze is bound to be up there in the mentions. Sitting inside Everton Park’s 24-hour fresh produce market, the foodie haven embraces market-to-mouth philosophy, turning the fruit and vegetables from the store into cold drinks, hearty bowls and guilt-free treats. Bonus: everything on the menu is vegan so no need to worry about subbing stuff out.

LYV Kitchen: Kenmore has got a bit of a rep for housing some of Brisbane’s best eateries, and LYV Kitchen is no exception. This secret spot is a great find for anyone looking for a cafe that endorses conscious consuming and environmentally friendly practices. The menu features a range of comforting homemade options, with the likes of bircher muesli, smashed avocado and nourish bowls available alongside raw cheesecakes and treats from the cabinet. Oh, and they don’t charge extra for dairy-free milk alternatives – woohoo!

Coco Bliss: In a rush but not willing to settle for some processed trash for breakfast? Coco Bliss has got you. The superfood empire has seven Brisbane locations that are each bursting with fresh, wholesome and healthy eats and drinks. The bowls and smoothies here are packed full of stuff that’s good for your guts but definitely don’t taste like some bland seed-filled concoction. Try the peanut butter cookie dough super smoothie and thank us later.

Bold Bean Cafe: Situated next to Bold Living’s design studio in North Lakes, Bold Bean combines a smart fit out with a range of delicious dishes (and coffee), that caters to a variety of tastes. From the simple and healthy options such as toasted granola and seasonal fruit bowls through to avocado salsa stacks, homemade corn fritters (and something enticingly called Dessert for breakfast??), Bold Bean has got your day-starters sorted.

Marketcart: We all know that hospital food blows, so it makes sense that those in the vicinity of hospitals would be craving a wholesome and healthy alternative to what’s served between those sterile walls. Situated across the road from the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Marketcart is the creation of Andrea Harcourt. Working with a consulting dietitian, Andrea has created a range of wholefood options using locally sourced ingredients without preservatives. Start your day with a range of breakfast bites including breakfast burritos, egg and ham muffins, yoghurt and fruit cups and more.

Mylk + Co: If you like your breakfast bites with a serious splash of colour and a heady dose of fun, Mylk + Co will blow your mind. This cute New Farm cafe serves up an all-day brunch menu with both sweet and savoury options, including the likes of peanut-butter-cup acai bowls, red-velvet waffles, green toasties, carrot pancakes and Iced Vovo mylkshakes. The cafe also serves up Allpress coffee, cold-pressed juices, Old Cossack probiotic drinks and Cocowhip (yasss).

Karobean Cafe: Not so big on Brussels sprouts? This Bardon joint might just change your mind. Karobean Cafe is all about health-focused options that don’t skimp on taste. Almost everything is made in house, from the paleo granola to the paleo pumpkin bread with homemade chilli ricotta or almond butter. The menu is constantly evolving, but you’ll may find the likes of smashed pumpkin with goats cheese on sourdough with pine nuts, or fried brussels sprouts, kale and eggs.

Wilde Kitchen: Hey Brisbane, take a walk of the wild(e) side. Teneriffe locals are spoilt for choice at Wilde Kitchen, a schmick eatery that boasts a totally gluten-free menu that is based on a paleo philosophy. All food is prepared with the highest quality natural, unprocessed ingredients and is sourced from local suppliers. With items like sticky pork burritos, protein pancakes and collagen panna cotta, you best believe you can indulge in delicious flavours without any guilt.

Pineapple Express: When it comes to OG healthy Brisbane eats, it doesn’t get much more legit than Pineapple Express. This bright and breezy Hamilton haunt has been a wholefoods paradise for years now, dishing up a huge range of healthy eats from bowls to salads on the daily. Bring a mate and demolish the Pineapple’s share board featuring two mini breakfast bowls, poached eggs, black forest bacon, pulled pork, avocado, beetroot relish, haloumi and house-made hash. Game on!

Acai Brothers : Brisbanites that subscribe to the idea that their body is a temple have been given plenty of extra opportunities to worship ever since Acai Brothers arrived on the scene. The acai and healthy-eating gurus have taken Australia by storm, expanding and adding new franchises across Brisbane and the country at large thanks to a brilliantly cheeky marketing approach and a menu of tasty and nutritious treats.

Grown: Plant-based pals, rejoice! Grown has arrived to answer all of your cruelty-free dining prayers. Creator Sacha Muchall’s aim is for the eatery to be as sustainable as possible, working with local suppliers and producers such as FoodConnectSuncoast Fresh and Dramanti Artisan Roaster to craft the offering.The new West End local has already established itself as a rad place to go for a vegan feed, featuring a menu that is entirely free of animal products. You can’t really make a wrong choice but our money is on the house-made hash brown, the brioche French toast with pepper ice-cream or tofu scramble.

nodo: Doughnuts for breakfast? There’s a concept we can get behind. This ain’t no joke – nodo was built on the philosophy of putting fun back into wholesome food and hot damn does it deliver. The gluten-free rings of goodness are just the start – while we would happy wolf down one of every flavour, it would be a crime not to give the rest of the dine-in menu a look in. Feast on the likes of sweet potato waffles, cacao pops and loaded hotcakes washed down with a mood-enhancing super natural shake.

Sourced Grocer: Passionate owner Jerome Batten of Sourced Grocer has a clear focus for local, organic and seasonal produce sourced directly from the growers, which makes for some spectacularly fresh and wholesome fare. The in-house cafe serves up flavoursome breakfast dishes that are always changing but always remain focused on keeping it simple, letting the produce shine on the plate. Oh, and the green smoothies here will cure whatever (and we mean whatever) ails you.
