If your definition of ‘the Christmas spirit’ is binge eating and booze sipping, then you’re in for a treat this Sunday December 21. Brisbane’s beloved pop-up venture Beerkary Bakery will be celebrating A Very Green (Beacon) & Gold Christmas, which will see classic Christmas favourites matched to seven beers from Green Beacon Brewing. Held at the Teneriffe brewery from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm or until sold out, the themed pop-up will showcase Green Beacon’s limited-edition Christmas brew, which sees the Wayfarer USA blended with sweet brandy and sherry-macerated Christmas cake fruits and spices.

Start the session with grandpa’s wholewheat bread and honey-glazed Christmas pork jowl matched to an Anchor Amber; a rye, barley and walnut loaf with Stilton cheese and apricot matched to the Cross Knot Kolsch; or a malted macadamia nut bun with king prawns and hoppy herby mayo matched to the Grappler IPA. For dessert, you’ll have to make the tough decision of pavlova matched to 3 Bolt Pale Ale; an Australian Christmas cake – aka fruit cake lamington – matched to the Christmas Wayfarer infusion; or a passionfruit, pineapple and enigma hop beerclair matched to Green Beacon’s summer seasonal beer, Scrimshaw IPA.
