Get yourself to Barbecue Mafia and Crowbar’s carnivorous low-and-slow pop-up

What do you get when you pair Brisbane’s finest purveyors of barbecued meat with the minds behind one of Foritude Valley’s gnarliest bars? A gosh-darn match made in heaven, that’s what! After a successful experimental pop-up in 2016, Barbecue Mafia and Crowbar will be teaming up for a series of beer-meets-barbecue events at a trendy warehouse space in Stafford on April 8 and 22.

In case you haven’t heard, hundreds of ravenous carnivores have been flocking to Stafford on Saturday nights to get their incisors into some succulent morsels courtesy of the Barbecue Mafia. The low-and-slow specialists have been drawing crowds to a secluded warehouse owned and operated by the team behind acclaimed butcher Meat at Billy’s, and now a new partnership is set to take the operation to a whole other level. Following on from a well-received burger pop-up at Crowbar, an idea was devised for a licensed barbecue event series situated within the Stafford warehouse – thus, Barbecue Mafia and Crowbar have recently announced a fortnightly series of events pairing slow-cooked meat with beer, spirits and cocktails.

Crowbar is activating a specialised pop-up liquor license to bring the cheer to the Stafford haunt, setting up a special bar with a range of delightful cocktails and beer courtesy of Mountain Goat. Those that frequent Barbecue Mafia’s events will know that the team loves to experiment, which means that both confirmed events will feature a different menu of barbecued delights. On Saturday April 8, punters can expect Mafia smoked pastrami sandwiches (with house Russian sauce, pickles and white onions) and smoked Carolina pork sandwiches (topped with tangy Carolina Gold BBQ sauce). The pop-ups will also boast live R’n’B performances for maximum vibes – find out more details in the event guide.
