Superstar Melbourne bakery Baker D. Chirico has launched a pop-up at its soon-to-open Newstead location
Ever since renowned loaf maker Baker D. Chirco revealed its plans for a production bakery, shopfront and cafe in Newstead, we’ve been eagerly awaiting word on when the acclaimed creator of artisanal goodies (inspired by French, German and Italian baking cultures) would open to the public. Well, folks, we have some good news – today Baker D. Chirico has opened a pop-up slinging its signature hot bread and pastries, heralding more to come as we inch ever closer to its official launch. Here’s what we know …
If you’re like us, you’ve no doubt gone out of your way to try and peer through the hoarding shielding prying eyes from the fit-out works going on at the base of Cavcorp’s Long Island development on Longland Street. It’s here that Baker D. Chirico’s Newstead outpost has been taking shape – a striking March Studio-designed bakery and cafe from which Daniel Chirico and his team of hot-shot kneaders, shapers and bakers will be crafting Baker D. Chirico’s loaves and pastries (all of which are crafted using traditional bread-making techniques, natural fermentations and biodynamic stone-milled wholegrain flour).
Though hampered by some pesky delays, Baker D. Chirico’s Newstead site is finally nearing completion. Although no official opening date has been announced, the team is giving Brisbane’s baked-goods fanatics a taste of the expected range with a bread and pastry pop-up, launching today Thursday January 11. From 9:00 am until sold out, the Baker D. Chirico pop-up window (which can be found down an alleyway toward the entrance of Total Fusion) will serve a rotating selection of carby treats, including its casalinga (white sourdough) as well as one or two other specialty breads. You’ll also find sweets like croissants, pain au chocolate and bombolone, as well as a selection of savoury options – think ham and gruyere croissants and lunch paninis.
Baker D. Chirico’s pop-up will be running for a limited time – keep your eyes on the bakery’s social media pages for more info on operating hours, and stay tuned to The Weekend Edition for more info on the bakery’s official launch.
