Sips, snacks and scenery – party with a heightened perspective at Altitude at Foresters
Just under a month ago Foresters Restaurant and Bar made a big splash at the northern end of Brunswick Street. The revitalisation of its heritage-listed home marked a new age for the entertainment precinct’s fringe, but the restaurant was only one half of the story. Perched six levels above terra firma, Altitude at Foresters is a swish rooftop cocktail-bar addition that is pairing incredible vistas across Fortitude Valley with luxe bottle-service vibes and modern Australian bar bites.
When news of GURNER’s plan for a hospitality hub at the base its luxury FV development first broke, most eyes were drawn to the mention of a brand-new rooftop bar in the mix – one that promised unbeatable views of Fortitude Valley and plenty of top-notch drinks to suit. Well, after a couple of months of patient waiting, Altitude at Foresters is officially open and, from first impressions, it looks to be making good on its promises. Located six floors above opulent eatery and bar Foresters, Altitude is one part lively night-time hangout and one part leisurely cocktail lounge, with vistas stretching over the entertainment precinct’s streetscape to the Story Bridge and The City’s skyline. Access can be found just next to Foresters’ main entry, where a lift awaits to elevate guests to Altitude’s snazzily decorated 250-sqm bar and balcony (those dining at Foresters also have access to the lift, while residents of FV boast private access of their own). The bar itself has been furnished with custom pieces, ranging from low-set couches, four eye-catching white-and-navy cabana-style lounges (which can be booked for private soirees), a strip of chic lounges running along the Alfred Street side and stool seating along the railing bench.
Altitude Bar specialises in luxe libations, so those seeking a sophisticated sip will find plenty to wet their whistle. The cocktail menu boasts the same 18 cocktails as Foresters below, each imbued with Australian ingredients. The Bushfire negroni with Mt Uncle ‘Bushfire’ smoked gin, Campari and martini rosso is a winner, but other concoctions such as the amaretto brulee, Brunswick Street Bulldog, salted-caramel espresso martini, Boatman’s Breakfast and Foresters Irish coffee are definite highlights. Bolstering the drinks selection is a clutch of Australian wines, craft beer available bottled or off tap and some fancy bottle-service packages. Executive chef Peter Popow has crafted a pared-back version of the Foresters menu for Altitude’s snack selection, focusing on shared grazing plates and small bites instead of sit-down fare. The chicken-stuffing croquettes with cranberry puree, salt-and-pepper-dusted calamari with lemon-myrtle aioli, pepper-seared wallaby carpaccio, and a selection of stone-baked pizzas will help fill tummies – plenty to enjoy alongside the visual feast afforded by the view.
