Alfred & Constance’s brother venue Alfredo’s Pizzeria opens in Fortitude Valley
Popular Fortitude Valley haunt Alfred & Constance has a new neighbour also open late into the evening – Alfredo’s Pizzeria. The Italian eatery and bar joins Limes Hotel and Alfred & Constance, forming the latest piece of Damian Griffiths’ plan to renew a forgotten pocket of Fortitude Valley.
While Alfredo’s Pizzeria is the latest addition to the Fortitude Valley clan, tucked just behind Alfred & Constance, it happily claims its own identity as an Italian restaurant and bar without succumbing to any sibling rivalry. Doors open to the public tomorrow, and Alfredo’s will be serving Italian fare until midnight daily, when the establishment will transform into a casual bar for its final early morning hours of trade.
Jocelyn Hancock worked with head chef Norman Harvey (formerly of E’cco Bistro) on the menu to create a selection of comfort food that an Italian nonna would approve of. Woodfired pizzas emerge in a constant stream from a large purpose-built oven at the heart of the open kitchen, and each can be ordered by the slice. That means if you are torn between the four-cheese pizza and the Joan Jet, which has caramelised onion, chilli, tomato, oregano, capers, black olives and anchovies, you can tuck into both and still have space left for a meatball slider. The dedicated Comfort Food menu stars delicate puffs of gnocchi alongside a contemporary take on macaroni cheese, as well as classic beef lasagne and bolognese.
The space was originally an old factory floor, and designer Alexander Lotersztain retained original elements of exposed brick and sea-saw roofing in his design. Vintage objects including scales, a weathered foosball table and an old cash register create a feeling of stepping into an old Italian warehouse.
