Sipping Santa – add some extra Christmas cheer with a gift your pals can drink
The countdown is officially on now – there are less than ten days until Christmas. If, like us, you’ve left the hardest-to-buy-for recipients’ gifts until last, we have a suggestion … get them something they can drink. It’s fun, it’s festive and it’s guaranteed to put an extra spring in their step on Christmas morning (there are no rules between Christmas and New Year). We’re not just talking about any old bottle though, you want to look like you’ve still put some thought into it! Here are a few ideas to help you nail your drinkable gift giving this year …
For something unexpected
If your pal is a bit of a spirit connoisseur, don’t try to guess their favourite tipple – chances are you’ll get it wrong. Instead we suggest opting for something entirely unexpected and extra special. Feels Botanical is the brainchild of local lads Blake Vanderfield-Kramer and Steve Pillemer, who want to change the way that eau de vie – a European-style fruit brandy – is perceived in the industry. The grape-based spirit is incredibly diverse, sipping well served neat or in a variety of cocktails in lieu of other white spirits. The small-batch Feels Botanical uses traditional techniques to craft its eau de vie, using Australian grapes and a collection of native and distinctive ingredients – think the likes of quandong, hemp, horny goat weed and Davidson plum. If you’re not sure where to start, opt for the Feels Botanical Christmas Gift Box, which will give your recipient the chance to try all four. Grab a box online or pick up a bottle in person from Kiah Organic & Wholefoods Warehouse.
For a cracking surprise
Tired of novelty paperclips and sad paper hats in your Christmas crackers? Slide some drinkable treats into the Christmas tree! Fever-Tree has teamed up with Bombay Bramble, Moores Dry Gin, Hendrick’s and Farmer’s Wife Autumn Gin to create a gift box of four gin and tonic Christmas crackers. Each gin has been paired with a different tonic water – Mediterranean tonic water with Bombay Bramble, Indian tonic water with Moores, Elderflower tonic water with Hendrick’s and Aromatic tonic water with Farmer’s Wife. Pick a pack up from David Jones.
For summer in a can
If your friend is a fan of fizz, they’re going to froth these four-packs! Small-batch winery Delinquente has released a range of fun and refreshing bevs just in time for summer, packed up in uber-cute cans that make the perfect drinkable gift. Choose from the albarino pet nat, the lemon-myrtle and pepperberry piquette, the cascara piquette, the Bizzarro aperitivo spritz or the Bizzarro aperitivo and Mischief Brew tonic – or opt for the limited-edition Shack Pack, which features a 32-can selection! You can find the cans on the Deliquente website, or pick some up in person from Half Moon Wine Store.
For the coffee lover
By coffee we clearly mean coffee liqueur! Local coffee heroes Mr Black Roasters & Distillers have teamed up with the Sunshine State’s iconic Bundaberg Rum to release a limited-edition tipple just in time for summer sips – the Mr Black Rum Barrel Aged Coffee Liqueur. The concoction blends rum-barrell-aged Mr Black cold-brew coffee liqueur with Bundaberg Master Distillers’ Blender’s Edition Rum and is a true sensory delight – imagine tasting notes of coffee, Christmas spices, dark chocolate, brown sugar and raisins. Sounds like the perfect post-ham drink to us. Pick up a bottle online from Mr Black.
For a trip to Margaritaville
Forget the eggnog – this year we’re opting for a more weather-appropriate festive tipple. Spice up your mate’s silly season with a margarita kit under the tree so they have everything they need to get the festivities started. You’re going to need a cocktail shaker, some good-quality tequila, a handful of limes, fancy salt and – of course – Cointreau. To celebrate Christmas, Cointreau has released a tropical limited-edition gift box, which comes with a fun brass toucan pourer to help you channel your inner bartender. Siri, play ‘Hippy, Hippy Shake’ on Spotify. Hot tip – if you know they can’t be bothered juicing, throw in a bottle of Margarita Margarita’s classic mix!
Remember to drink responsibly this festive season!
