Alastair McLeod launches Al’FreshCo at City Markets

Ex-Bretts Wharf and Tank Restaurant and Bar executive chef Alastair McLeod has turned his attention to the small producer, supporting local farmers and feeding city folk with his new venture Al’FreshCo. Set amongst the bustling weekly markets at Reddacliff Place, the Al’FreshCo stall aims to expose more people to Queensland’s locally grown produce through a range of seasonal, ready-to-eat food and products.

Using produce from the farmers at the markets, Alastair bakes each item from scratch, with the likes of Roasted Red Onion, Organic Sweet Potato, Tomato and Persian Fetta Galette gracing the lunchtime menu. Organic Pullet Eggs from the Darling Downs feature in Alastair’s Croque ‘Madman’, while pork is sourced from Leyburn, flour from Kialla and Fromart cheese from Eudlo.

Al’FreshCo will also be providing catering to homes and businesses, and is slowly developing a range of products to use in your own kitchen. The Al’FreshCo EVOO is cold pressed by Karsten Wendland in Millmerran, with the green manzanillo olives also turned into an olivada spread. A smoky barbecue sauce, preservative-free tomato ketchup and passata of pureed fresh Sunshine Coast tomatoes are also included in the pantry offerings.

Sporting seed-to-plate sensibilities and nurturing a food culture that appreciates and desires the knowledge of where each product is sourced from, Al’FreschCo will next be at the Jan Powers Powerhouse Farmers Market on February 23 and the city market on February 27.
