A taste of the contemporary at Stokehouse Q

A taste of the contemporary at Stokehouse Q

South Bank has well and truly earned its culinary stripes of late, which are particularly evident in the modernist surrounds of Stokehouse at River Quay.

The statement-making restaurant consists of origami-like folds of rich timber in an array of sharp angles; sleek and modern, it directly reflects the restaurant’s approach to cooking. Check out the menu and you’ll find contemporary creations with a Mediterranean edge and a focus on seafood.

Sister restaurant to the Stokehouse Q that sits in Melbourne’s St Kilda, Brisbane’s version is just as slick in its feasts thanks to a hands-on collaboration between the two head chefs. Tony Kelly leads the crew in Queensland with a menu that includes Gold Band Snapper with fennel, orange and South Australian octopus, and the equally sophisticated Free-range Duck Breast with eggplant, cumin, served with a date and madeira reduction. But we’ve got out eye on the dessert list, which includes mouthwatering creations like Drunken Date and Mascarpone Tart with oranges, zest and mandarin sorbet.

If you are after more of a tipple and a nibble, step into the adjoining Stoke Bar. With a martini in hand, feel free to mix and mingle with others like you’re an extra in Mad Men. Sip on a creatively-titled cocktail, like the girlish Pink Diamond with lychee and elderflower or the Campari and gin creation Italian Blood. Social butterflies can still indulge in some nibbles with the bar’s menu including cheeses and tasty candied walnuts.
