5 Boroughs makes its mark on Ascot’s Racecourse Road

Bringing its brand of Manhattan-inspired dining 5 Boroughs opens its second location within Brisbane, occupying an iconic Queenslander in Ascot.

In 2015 Stones Corner welcomed 5 Boroughs with open arms, celebrating the arrival of the eatery’s brand of New York-inspired eats. The ownership team has now added a second location to its portfolio, establishing 5 Boroughs Ascot in an iconic 92-year-old Queenslander on Racecourse Road. 5 Boroughs has taken on a lengthy lease, making itself at home by raising the ceiling by a metre, adding a new beer garden and overhauling the bar with custom light fixtures and new tiles reminiscent of NYC subways. The larger space includes a larger kitchen where products made on site, converting an old pizza oven into a low-and-slow cooker for ribs and briskets.

With the extra kitchen space 5 Boroughs Ascot can afford to expand the menu, properly communicating Manhattan’s nature as a melting pot of international cuisines. Peruvian, Hispanic and Japanese cuisines have been incorporated to the menu, alongside the usual suspects such as burgers, sliders, sandwiches, criss-cross chips and onion rings. The extension to the 5 Boroughs menu is extensive, with the addition of drinking food selections such as Peking duck pancakes, anticuchos and natural oysters as well as street eats such as house-made dumplings, Old Bay crab cakes and salads. Patrons can also order dishes from the pan such as steak frites and flat pressed crusted spatchcock. A vegan burger is available, as are gluten-free buns, chips and a selection of gluten-free dishes. The bar boasts six taps pouring Brooklyn Lager, Sam Adams Boston Lager and alcoholic ginger beer as well as a range of local brews. 18 wines are available by the glass, and a tidy cocktail list featuring classic recipes will help keep the good times going. For more information on 5 Boroughs in Ascot, head to the Stumble Guide.
