Young Creatives-in-Residence: Steampunk Style

Young Creatives-in-Residence: Steampunk Style

Join us on the school holidays for a week of hands-on art workshops for children aged 8-15 years. The day begins with an inspiration session touring an exhibition or exploring City Hall followed by a hands-on art activity to complement the focus for that day. Participants will be introduced to new artistic skills, encouraged to be extremely creative and develop an appreciation for existing artworks and architecture. Delivered and facilitated by our experienced art teachers your children will learn about each of our exhibitions and leave each day with a special artwork to display.

Inspired by our newest exhibition, Sit. Pose. Snap. children will draw on 19th century fashions, learn how to create their very own accessories in a steampunk style! Children will have access to materials such as leather, fabric and metal to create armbands, hair accessories and more.

Sit. Pose. Snap. Brisbane Portrait Photography 1850 – 1950 is a rare exhibition that explores the phenomenon of studio portrait photography in Brisbane, showing how the process of capturing and sharing a portrait evolved from the formal studio sittings of the 19th century through to candid and relaxed photographs of the mid-20th century. The exhibition is the first major showcase of the extensive private collection of Marcel Safier – one of Australia’s most significant collectors of portrait photography.
