XXXX Original Draught revival day
It was designed as the perfect tap beer almost four decades ago – and now XXXX Original Draught is back, for one day only.
Back in the early ’70s, Queenslanders faced a problem. They had come to love XXXX for the best part of a century, with XXXX Bitter flying off the shelves, but the beer taps were a bit touch and go, resulting in a lot of really, really frothy beers poured at local establishments across the state. It was in 1971 that the legends at Castlemaine Perkins Brewery perfected a recipe using lower carbon dioxide, limiting the ‘wild pours’ which pubs had become used to.
XXXX Original Draught was born – and it proved an instant hit. By the time summer rolled around that year, Queensland pub-goers couldn’t get enough of the new drop, which had a different mouth-feel, decrease in bitterness, and smoother drinking experience.
With XXXX GOLD being introduced 20 years later – and since becoming Australia’s number one beer – we haven’t seen Original Draught in a while, but on Friday, the 25th of January, it’s back with a bang. This genuine piece of Queensland history returns to the XXXX Alehouse and is sure to be popular again – so make sure you’re there for the first pour at 12:00 pm. Throw in the live music, lunch specials and the traditional XXXX Bitter off the wood, where you can taste this traditional brew straight from the wooden barrel, and you’ve got a perfect way to ring in the Australia Day Long Weekend.
This year marks the return of the old-school brew, as the XXXX Alehouse will be bringing out several more single day events just like this, celebrating different heritage brews, ranging as far back as 1878.
There’s only one place to get a taste of XXXX Original Draught – right where it all began. See you down there! Feel free to rock up on the day to join in on the fun, or alternatively to book a table you can contact [email protected].
