Wunderkammer: The strange and the curious

Wunderkammer: The strange and the curious

The UQ Art Museum is hosting Wunderkammer: The strange and the curious from July 11 to September 13. The exhibition is inspired by bizarre collections of curios that emerged in the late sixteenth century, known as ‘Cabinets of curiosity’ or Wunderkammers. The exhibition is divided into two parts, one that looks at objects that resemble a Medieval or early modern aesthetic such as religious relics, coins, manuscripts medical instruments artwork and other paraphernalia drawn from within the University of Queensland’s extensive collection of items. The second part of the exhibition is a Wunderkammer created by Luke Roberts in his alien alter-ego, Pope Alice.

Wunderkammer: The strange and the curious will coincide with the Australian and New Zealand Association of Medieval and Early Modern Studies (ANZAMEMS) 10th Biennial Conference, taking place at the University of Queensland in July.
