Woven and Tied: Women's Work?

Woven and Tied: Women’s Work?

Art from the Margins (AFTM) presents our second Inspired AIR exhibition Woven and Tied: Women’s Work?, a showcase of fibre and textile artworks from artist-in-residence Therese Flynn-Clarke and AFTM Outsider Artists – Vanessa Buiskool, Felicity Clarke, Rebekah Copas, Aunty Dawn Daylight, Uncle Duane Doyle, Jen Heathwood, Aunty Marlene Wilson, Karen O’Neill and Maureen Young.

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2019, the exhibition is the culmination of a mentorship program where artists, using basketry skills and stitching techniques, have explored the stereotypes of what is considered ‘women’s work’ within the art world. Traditional skills have been reinvented and repurposed to make art that is both thought-provoking and challenges notions of the ‘domestic’ and ‘feminine’.

Inspired AIR has received financial assistance from the Queensland Government through the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy, an initiative of the Australian, state and territory governments.
