World Science Festival Brisbane: The ‘art’ of a field botanist

Field botanists are a special breed of scientist. Part plant hunter, part explorer, with a dabbling of artist, they’re a bit like the Indiana Jones of the botanical world. They’ve sailed across vast oceans with some of the most famous explorers in history, and walked great distances across unfamiliar lands, all in the name of botany. Join us as we go ‘botanizing’ in the footsteps of Sir Joseph Banks, Daniel Solander and Sydney Parkinson – press and dry your own plant specimen to take home, write botanical descriptions and sketch your own botanical drawings, just like they did back in 1770 as they travelled up the east coast of Australia in the Endeavour.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All materials provided.

Location: Meet at the Auditorium lawn.
