ArtWorld Studio Gallery will host an immersive ‘Working in Watercolour’ workshop to help participants loosen up and add a sense of spontaneity to their painting. All equipment is included in the cost of the class.

Topics covered will include selecting paints, papers and brushes; understanding the different types of washes; special effects; highlighting; making alterations; creating opacity; and painting landscapes and buildings.

DATE: Saturday 17 March 2018
TIME: 10am-2pm
COST: $110 + $15 for materials

You will learn:
– The art of using Chinese brushes to create broad and ultra-fine marks
– How to apply a soft glaze
– Pencil tricks, spattering and sponging
– How to create washes and work wet into wet
– How to blend graduated washes, upside down washes, merging tones and variegated washes
– The technique behind ‘muddy’ colours (the result of colours bleeding into each other).
– Experimental washes such as dropped-in colour
– How to meet an edge, mask out, improve coverage and create a pencil wash
– How to correct drips and control excess water.

In compliance with Workshop Health & Safety regulations, all participants must wear closed-in shoes and an apron.

Coffee, tea and morning tea are included, although participants are asked to supply their own lunch. A fridge and small heating oven are available (no microwave).
