Violet-Crowned

Violet-Crowned

“Sweet mother, I cannot weave – slender Aphrodite has overcome me with longing for a girl.” Sappho

Part historical appreciation and part modern gay nonsense, Violet-Crowned is not only about who we love, but how we love them.

Before confirmed bachelors, gal pals and disco music, there was the Isle of Lesbos. Some 2,500 years ago, Sappho looked at women and loved them. Though few of her poems survived, she is part of a rich history of queer people who have fallen in and out of love and fashion since ancient times.

Peek into the hearts and minds of three women who love women as they rediscover the poetry of an ancestor, find solace in the words of their peers, and search for meaning in the telling and re-telling of their love stories.

If you’ve ever stuttered out a confession or been too gay to function, Violet-Crowned knows how you feel.
