Vinyasa Foundations Workshop

Vinyasa Foundations Workshop

In modern yoga we often talk about the word ‘flow’. Flowing with the breath and flowing from movement to movement. Our Vinyasa sequences flow from one pose to the next using the breath to guide our movement which initially can feel like everything is moving quickly (leaving us a little confused as to whether we’re getting it ‘right’)!

Vinyasa or flow is one of the most popular styles of yoga here at Stretch. It’s fun, interesting, dynamic, physically challenging and creative, and it can be especially uplifting in group classes when everyone’s breath and movement are in sync! As amazing as these classes are, it can be easy to feel a little lost or a confused at times; sometimes losing your internal focus, which is why we’ve created this workshop to delve into the fundamentals.

This workshop is about understanding the foundations of practice in a flow class, breaking down the poses to support better quality of movement and how to avoid excessive tensions in the body. A focus on Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutations both as a warming sequence and a flow from one side to the next will be fleshed out to bring ease to your body movement. We’ll explore challenging poses like chataranga as well as ways to strengthen and align for your body as you transition between each pose. Placement of the hands to avoid wrist and shoulder pain will also be examined to support healthy shoulder engagement for upper body strength.

This workshop will include the use of props (and guidance on how to use them to make poses easier or harder) and will look at modifying poses and transitions to suit your body and skill level. Whether you’ve not yet stepped foot in a flow class (but would love to gain the confidence), or if you are looking to completely refine your practice, this workshop is the perfect way to spend your morning!

Suitable for beginners as well as intermediate students.
