Unknown Pleasures

Unknown Pleasures

Well known for its innovative food incubation model and a die-hard ethos of ethical, high-quality, locally-sourced ingredients, Wandering Cooks has also become a quiet hero of the local wine scene. Today it has one of the smartest, ever-evolving, no-nonsense, whimsical, seasonally-driven, all-Australian wines services in Brisbane. They specialise is sourcing bottles direct from some of the best little wineries in the country – producers who often have no other outlets in Queensland – and showing them off to its faithfully curious crowd.

Unknown Pleasures is a celebration of those little producers. A day for Brisbane wine-lovers to come and see some of the country’s best kept vinous secrets. To talk and taste with cult winemakers from all over the country. To hear first-hand how and why these incredible drops are made. Wandering Cooks has already announced the first six wineries in the line-up, which includes recently shortlisted Young Winemaker of The Year candidates South By Southwest, from the Margaret River. Passionate Tasmanian Pinot Noir, Riesling and Chardonnay producer Samantha Connew will also be pouring wines from her Stargazer label. Established regional legends Sutton Grange (Bendigo) and Vigna Bottin (McLaren Vale) will be bringing along thier wide array of estate-grown, European- inspired wines. There’ll also be a slew of bottles open from two young labels working at the vanguard of style and regional experimentation across central Victoria and Queensland; Dirty Black Denim, and Konpira Maru.

A handful more are still to be announced.

Wandering Cooks’ lush, indoor/outdoor converted warehouse will be devoted all day to putting winemakers and wine-lovers together in a way that eschews the stuffiness of typical wine tastings. Unknown Pleasures is an afternoon of cellar door touring in the heart of Brisbane. Amid tasting, there’s plenty of time to break for lunch among the vines of Wandering Cooks’ sun-dappled beer garden. Four beautiful little kitchens will be serving a range of cuisines, promising perhaps the best festival food options you’ve ever experienced. Tickets include a glass of your choice from one of the producers on show to make the meal complete amongst other tasters.

This is wine-tasting the Wandering Cooks way. Casual, friendly and fun. A gathering of makers and lovers. Real people, talking about what they care about. Beautiful produce without the bullshit. And the time and space to drink it all in.
