Kick back with a cold beer every Sunday afternoon as Triffid Roots—presented by Sarah Howells (Roots N’ All)—takes over the venue and beer garden to bring you the best of Brisbane and Australia’s blues, roots, folk, contemporary jazz, soul, reggae and world music. Come along to The Triffid on Sunday January 10 and chill out to live tunes by Joel Edmondson and June Low. Entry is free.

Joel Edmondson
Joel Edmondson is a journeyman, wandering the valleys of country, soul and pop. Casting off the prog shackles of his 2010 debut, Invisible Steps, Joel Edmondson’s new music is stripped-back to the basics of great songwriting: infectious melodies, meaningful lyrics and raw emotion. With a voice that straddles the unfathomable divide between Joe Cocker and Roy Orbison, Joel Edmondsondelivers a performance that is at turns joyous, defiant and contemplative.

June Low
June Low is the project of Brisbane-based singer-songwriter, Emma White. Her music is an eclectic mix of folk, roots and indie-pop which combines rawness with translucent beauty. With a stirring voice and adventurous acoustic guitar playing, she creates a sound that is meditative, unexpected and confronting. The lyrics of June Low find inspiration in those moment-to-moment experiences that reshape your perceptions. Recently, White has added cello and violin to live shows and recordings, further enhancing her unique style. Over the years, she has supported artists such as Deniz Tek (Radio Birdman), Mia Dyson, Kellie Lloyd(Screamfeeder) and Sabrina Lawrie (Tongue, Little Vegas and the Fuzz Parade). Her most memorable gig was playing at a women’s prison in 2011 as part of a vigil to raise awareness of domestic violence. In March 2015, June Low released her debut album, Exhale, produced by Skritch (Gota Cola, Mary Trembles,Woolpit) at Borough Studios.
