Trekking the Great Himalaya Trail – With Special Guest Heather Hawkins

Do you want to undertake one of the most epic treks in the world? Or perhaps you want to explore the less frequented, yet most exciting and hidden corners of Nepal? If you answered ‘yes’ to either of these questions – then this night is for you! Join us for a night packed with awe-inspiring imagery and commentary, as 2016 GHT trekker, ultra marathon runner and author Heather Hawkins shares her adventures, trekking the full Great Himalaya Trail. Heather trekked the GHT with her children from February to August in 2016.

The Great Himalaya Trail (GHT), often described as a trekking ‘holy grail’, is the longest, highest and most diverse alpine walking track in the world. The trail will take you on the less trodden path of Nepal where you will be struck with awe and wonder at the scale and grandeur of the land. You can walk any of the seven stages of the Nepal section of the GHT (ranging from 18-34 days) or attempt the full traverse (152 days) from Kanchenjunga in the east to the Yari Valley in the west. If you take on the full-traverse you’ll see eight of the world’s 14 highest peaks over 8,000m, including Everest and cross passes reaching up to 6,000m.

Heather will take you on a stunning visual journey – winding through the tallest mountain ranges in the world, encountering nature’s extremes, and overcoming the challenges of this incredible traverse, all the while engaging with the beautiful people of Nepal’s most isolated communities, where the culture has remained intact for centuries. By joining one of the World Expeditions GHT treks you will be helping us to achieve our vision of sharing the benefit of tourism dollars with isolated communities that currently receive little to no income from this source. Be part of something special in 2018!

Heather Hawkins is a mother of two from Coogee, NSW. After surviving ovarian cancer in 2007, Heather was inspired to be stronger, fitter and to reconnect with her sense of adventure. Over the past five years Heather has embarked on an extraordinary running journey that had her winning the women’s division of the North Pole Marathon in April 2015, and completing the extreme challenge of the World Marathon Challenge in January 2016 covering seven marathons in seven days on seven continents. Heather is now booked to run the Volcano Marathon in Nov 2017 in Chile. Heather’s adventures, including the GHT, are covered in her new book Adventurous Spirit launching August 2017. This is an amazing book written from the heart and reflects her incredible journey. Signed copies of the book will be available on the night for $30 each (cash only).
