Jan Murphy Gallery is excited to present This is my corner, a new exhibition of photographic works by Brisbane-based artist Martin Smith. Smith’s photography practice is informed by personal narratives and is often imbued with dry humour and pathos. Using both text and photography as methods of recording experience, he creates works that resonate with meaning and speak to the human condition.

Smith has been exhibiting nationally and internationally for over a decade. Most recently, he has been invited to exhibit in Photoville in New York in September 2019, where his works will be displayed as large scale banners under the Brooklyn Bridge. As part of the 2019 Brisbane Art and Design Festival program, Smith installed a large scale artwork on the exterior of Jan Murphy Gallery. Smith’s work is held in significant public and private collections in Australia, Hong Kong and the USA, including QAGOMA, Monash Gallery of Art, MONA and Artbank.
