The Trailblazers – Elders Panel

The rights that the LGBTIQ+ community have today are because of the fierce strength and advocacy of our elders. And these trailblazers still have not given up the fight.

Three LBGTIQ+ icons, Brian Day OAM, Jill Bolen and Bobbie Jean Bunt, will sit down to discusses the changes that have happened over the decades, discrimination then and now, and what else there is to fight for.

Brian Day was a founding member of the Brisbane branch of CAMP (Campaign Against Moral Persecution), a member of the Gay Activists Alliance and founding member of Camp Club, the first LGBTIQ+ social club all established in Brisbane both in the early 1970s.

Jill Bolen is the first women to achieve the ranks of Chief Superintendent in Queensland. Jill’s rise through the ranks of the police force during Joh Bjelke-Petersen’s time in power attests to her own personal resilience.

Bobbie Jean Bunt is a 62 year old post op trans woman who works as a fly in/fly out surveyor on projects throughout Queensland. Bobbie Jean is an out and proud member of the community with a profound experience of working in a field where trans people are a rarity.
