The Solo Mum

The Solo Mum is an autobiographical painting exhibition based on Danielle Milne’s experiences as a single mother. The Solo Mum breaks the negative stigma that is often attached to single mothers as “women with baggage” by showcasing a life with a child as being filled with opportunity and adventure, not burdensome encumbrances.

“When I first fell pregnant it was difficult to find positive role models of solo mothers for me to look up to. It would have served me well to hear their stories and share in their experiences. This exhibition is a response to this need.”

Danielle’s hyperreal painting practice is filled with Fashion imagery. She takes images from Fashion magazines and uses them as surrogates for herself and her son. Her approach to painting and subject is ambitious, unapologetic, sometimes blunt, and always tempered with wit.
