The Lazaro Pompa Quintet

Born in Havana Cuba, Lazaro developed a love for music from an early age. He studied the trumpet at the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory of Music in Havana and has had over 15 years’ international experience performing classical, latin, jazz and pop.

Lazaro performs with a number of bands in Australia including the award winning latin band Quarter Street. With Quarter Street he had the opportunity to appear at the 2016 Womadelaide festival, where he was invited on stage with grammy-winning artist Diego El Cigala. In 2016 he also toured with Chinese pop star David Tao in his Second to None tour, to packed stadiums across China.

Lazaro recently composed and recorded in Cuba his debut album of original music and features special guest Manuel “Guajiro” Mirabal, a founding member of the Buena Vista Social Club. Lazaro is passionate about his Cuban heritage and runs workshops promoting Cuban music and culture in Australia.

The Lazaro Quintet featuring Brisbane’s top latin musicians will be performing famous songs from Buena Vista Social Club along with Afro-cuban standards and original works by Lazaro himself.
