The Flumes and Steve Grady
Kick back with a cold beer every Sunday, as Triffid Roots presented by Sarah Howells (Roots ‘N All) takes over the venue and beer garden to bring you the best of Brisbane, and Australia’s blues, roots, folk, contemporary jazz, soul, reggae and world music.
The Flumes conjure up a lushly funky, dark and sparkling, intoxicating brew. Electric Harp pouring out psychedelic melodies over a stylin’ rhythm section laced with soulful vocals. It’s difficult to pin this trio down to one genre. Let’s just say The Flumes create an exquisitely eclectic blend of psychedelic folk laced with funk, blues, jazz, trip hop and a splash of reggae. So if you’re expecting Irish ditties or anything faintly classical, prepare to have your preconceptions blown in the best possible way. The trio have performed at the following soirees: Woodford, Earth Frequency, Floating Land, Island Vibe, Mission Evolve, Kuranda Roots, Palm Creek and Caloundra Music festival. They’ve also supported The WooHoo Revue, Kingfisha, The Beards, and the Violent Femmes.
So far Steve Grady has released Hotel Chelsea in 2009 (SK Records) and Youth Skin in 2011 (SK Records), produced by ARIA-award-winning musician and producer, Shane Nicholson. Kasey Chambers features on the track ‘Concrete Garden’, and with Nicholson covered Grady’s painful ditty, ‘She Waits Till I’m Asleep’, featured on the Wreck and Ruin album (2012).
The multiple QMusic-Award-nominee and APRA-songwriting-award-winner has been featured on both ABC Radio and Triple J, and has performed at multiple festivals including Woodford Folk Festival, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Gympie Muster, Katoombah Folk Festival. He has also been a guitarist for numerous artists including Sue Ray, Josh Rennie-Hynes, Megan Cooper, and Dan Parsons.
