The Boxties

The Boxties

Beloved Brisbane band The Boxties make their long awaited debut in the Cremorne Theatre. In a genre-pushing, theatrical evening, The Boxties bring their trademark contemporary vibe and high energy music-making to QPAC in a concert celebrating songs and tales of the sea.

The Boxties will feature breathtaking music from Sting’s eleventh studio album The Last Ship alongside haunting melodies that speak of boundless oceans and distant longings – music that has resonated equally in the old world and the new. This is dynamic ensemble music-making – fresh, bold and thoughtful.

The Boxties bring together Sting’s soulfulness – and sense of humour – with older material, the kind of music that puts The Last Ship into its wider context – the end of a way of life, and a once mighty empire, slowly fading with the tide. The Boxties have taken a selection of songs from The Last Ship and interspersed them with others from the folk tradition that deal with ideas of community, of love in difficult circumstances, of dreams, and the sea.

The Boxties features Ben Burrows, Deanna Connelly, Ebony Cundy-Profke, Lochlin Dormer, Mitchell Dormer, Bridget Matthews, Annie Silva and Ashreya Ward. Their artistic director is Steph McCaw.
