Terra Pines (Formerly Tall Pines) are a Grungegaze/Sludgepop band hailing from Brisbane. Bought together in late 2015 by a mutual love of all things noisy the band have been creating music that defies categorisation ever since. Drawing from an array of influences Terra Pines walk a fine line between many genres including Shoegaze, Grunge, Post-Punk, Sludge Pop and Jangle Pop without feeling derivative.

The Double Happiness are two couples riding high on the waves of a surfgaze sound. Take the spooky mystique of Twin Peaks and the rollicking vintage cool of Pulp Fiction and you will find their particular blend of indie surf and shoegaze.

Their debut EP “City” (Valley Heat Records) released last year was a 4ZZZ favourite with airplay around the country on community radio. The Double Happiness have played their reverb drenched tunes all over Brisbane, including a support slot for UK 90s giants “The Charlatans” and a cracking live to air set for 4ZZZ’s Right Here Right Now program.

With a full album of ripper new tunes to be recorded this year, The Double Happiness are ready to tumble into 2019.

Emerging from the always nebulous fringe-fringe scene of Brisbane’s indie underground during 2013, Edith Thomas Furey began by rehashing tired post-punk and Shoegaze tropes. Five years later, his sound hasn’t evolved, but the context is once again ripe for a bedroom producer who has a basic command of drum sequencing and the ability to adequately wield a guitar trem-bar. Combining the atmosphere of a Joy Division cover band with the pop sensibilities of a Cocteau Twins cover band – occasionally punctuated by Springsteenesque nonsensical gibberish – ETF provides the listener with a passable imitation of a hallowed era in sad music while simultaneously inspiring aspiring bedroom producers to sit up and exclaim: ‘Is that all it takes? Hot damn!’

Start Together are a four-piece who combine elements from Sonic Youth, The Cure, and Sleater Kinney to form a unique brand of post-punk / shoegaze / guitar wonderfulness. Formed on Mt. Glorious in 2017 the band released three singles in 2018 (XMAL Inveigle, Being Born & 9617 Graham Chapman) and have just finished recording a batch of songs for release in early 2019. Always interesting, loud, and rhythmically rich, the band’s blend of complex ideas and pop hooks is certain to make its mark on you.
