Songkran Thai New Year
Brisbane City Council is creating more to see and do, hosting Songkran Thai New Year in Chinatown Mall on Saturday April 13. Songkran is Thailand’s most famous festival on the Buddhist calendar and marks the beginning of the traditional Thai New Year.
The festival will feature a range of activities and events to celebrate cultural diversity and showcase the cultures of Thailand and South East Asia.
There will be a variety of South East Asian inspired performances including bathing of the Buddha, traditional music, dances, workshops, roving acts, along with market stalls. The festival, part of the Valley Malls’ activation program, will bring a strong sense of community to Fortitude Valley.
The event, celebrating the diversity of Australia’s multicultural society from 4:00–9:00 pm, is a festival for everyone, regardless of age, religious beliefs or cultural background.
Songkran Thai New Year is one of the thousands of markets, festivals and events Council helps deliver each year.
