A pioneering world-premiere circus act based on the relationship between fathers and sons will take over QPAC’s Playhouse Theatre from November 22–25. Inspired by Circa Cairns’ very own artistic director Harley Mann’s experience growing up in a single mother household, SON challenges the Western ideas of masculinity, culture and Queerness. Four male First Nations acrobats take centre stage as the audience witness a journey of embracing oneself through physical strength and guarded vulnerabilities. Accompanied live by female First Nations quartet Kardajala Kirridarra, this First Nations-led contemporary work fuses beautiful sounds with striking acrobatics and cultural dance.
