Soft Concrete Sharp Sponge
The idea central to Soft Concrete Sharp Sponge lies within the intervention and disruption of everyday spaces as a means to alter the pre-existing binary conventions and expectations that define them. This explanation explores ways of revealing the constructed nature of these conventions and questions the rationality of their existence.
Independent yet interrelated, both Aishla Manning and Hailey Atkins employ playful bricolage/assemblage to manipulate and disrupt the binary relationships associated with two contrasting spaces, ‘the domestic’ and ‘the construction site’. This exhibition exposes previously curtained (or fenced) facets of these realms and welcomes the potential for new meaning as unexposed tensions and dialogues between each artist’s work is revealed.
