Slow Stitching & Mindful Mending Workshop

Slow Stitching & Mindful Mending Workshop

Learn new skills and approaches to stitching, mending, and mindfulness; with a focus on sustainability, connection, and craft. Come along to this workshop where Ellie of Petal Plum will teach her version of slow stitching. Which is a little like Indian Kantha, Japanese Boro, very simple Sashiko, and traditional embroidery techniques; combined with a whole lot of ‘do what works for you’! You’ll work with various fabrics, and ponder mixing weights and weaves together-finding out what works and what doesn’t.

There will be an assortment of upcycled, sustainable materials to work with, including Ellie’s own botanically dyed fabrics, and vintage materials. Ellie truly believe that spending time with this cloth will connect you to yourself on a deeper level, and change the way you view creativity, humble moments and simple things. You’ll also learn how to mend woven fabrics (clothing or household linens), using visible mending techniques.

This workshop is perfect for everyone, ranging from complete beginners to experienced fiber artists. Ellie can teach you how to thread a needle and tie a knot, or inspire you to push through the confines and restrictions of ‘perfect’ embroidery and sewing. Ellie will teach at your level, to help you get the most out of the time spent stitching, be that the very basics or challenging yourself with new ideas. You’ll go home with: special needles, botanically dyed threads, stitching booklet, fabrics to keep playing with, your stitch work, and plenty of inspiration!
