Shuvani – Festivale Historique
Sastimos! Welcome! Set within the grounds of historic Old Petrie Town, under 350 year old fig trees, Festival Historique is more than medieval re-enactment. Discover our living encampment and experience the magic and mystery of the ancient nomads of the Spice Trail. Feel the beating rhythm of the drums; see the flying skirts of the dancers, smell the spices, savour the colours. Whirl in a village dance or pound out your worries in a drum workshop. Craft a traditional peg doll, an amulet bag, leather puppet or a necklace. If you dare, ask our readers to read your fortune, or go home with an exotic henna tattoo. Learn to juggle or weave a basket. Watch medieval artisans at work and enjoy the displays. Buy crafts, jewellery, handmade baskets, natural remedies, herbs and incense. Or just enjoy a picnic, a visit fireside or a chat outside our traditional tents.
Family friendly; farm animals, arts, crafts, pony and camel rides, workshops, street theatre in addition to surprise re-enactment guests and performers joining us throughout the weekend.
Plenty of food vendors on site this year and extra special night performances Saturday evening around the fire. A magical weekend for only $5 entry per person per day: join us Saturday 10 am until 7:00 pm. Sunday 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. Bring your rugs and picnic basket! (Small charges for some workshops, some will require bookings in advance at souldance.com.au/shuvani from mid-August).
*Shuvani Festival Historique is hosted by a collective of performers and medieval re-enactors from the Morton Bay region. We’re essentially comprised of ordinary mums, dads and kids working to delight and entertain other families while shedding light on the little known ancestors of the Romani, Domari and Lomari nations, whose descendants make up approx 25,000 of Australia’s population today.
