This three-day course will instruct participants in many of the methods used in QSE’s rehearsal room, which contribute to the clarity, energy, and magic of our productions. Each participant will be given a scene to learn by heart in advance of the workshop, and will work with a scene partner and other participants, leaving no stone unturned, in our pursuit of full embodiment of Shakespeare’s text with precision, passion, and presence.

This course will provide you with the means to:

– Express the full passion and emotional range of the text, without over-acting or demonstrating.
– Convey with precision the images and ideas in Shakespeare’s verse and prose, without becoming heady or flowery.
– Connect the scenarios and characters with contemporary political and philosophical ideas.
– Investigate the psychological depth of Shakespeare’s writing and bring its richness to your performance.
