Screamfeeder, Babaganouj, Dopamine, Total Pace and Melaleuca

Valley Fiesta 2020, presented by Brisbane City Council & QMusic.

There aren’t many bands that get to make six albums. There are fewer still that manage to get to that number without turning in a sub-par record at some point. And those whose sixth album turns out to be their best ever? Well… you do the math.

That’s where beloved indie legends Screamfeeder found themselves in 2003, having experienced significant success with their 1996 breakthrough album Kitten Licks and 2000’s Rocks On The Soul. The band had climbed the slippery slope of the Australian music industry without major label support, becoming stalwarts of the summer festival circuit and touring pretty much constantly both locally and internationally.

This lineup sees the return to stage for beloved Brisbane band Babaganoüj. Drenched in Brisbane pride, power pop-rock outfit Babaganouj have grown a legion of fans since their 2011 inception. While keeping with their distinctly Australian style, The Nouj’s sound is reminiscent of Teenage Fanclub, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and Yuck, taking inspiration from Creation Records and Flying Nun classics.

With influences ranging from garage rock, British pop and post-punk – Dopamine carve their own identity out of musical nostalgia. Having a handful of releases under their belt already including 2019’s melancholy single ‘Decide’, the group have recently released their latest single, ‘Tonight’ to much praise around Australia.

Everyone loves a good supergroup and Brisbane has seen their fair share. Joining this lineup is  Total Pace. A conglomeration of some of our city’s finest musicians in the form of Tape/Off’s Branko Cosic (Drums), DZ Deathrays Simon Ridley (Guitar), Violent Soho’s Luke Henery (Bass) and I Heart Hiroshima’s Matthew Somers (Vocals/Guitar).

Formed in July of 2019, Brisbane four-piece Melaleuca has spent the past year developing a sound that has been described as “delivering grunge, alt-rock, and pop aspects in a seamless fashion.” Having already supported Brisbane regulars such as sweater curse and Waxflower, as well as a performance at the Mountain Goat Valley Crawl in February, the band has made a strong impression on any who have witnessed their work.
