Scenic Rim Eat Local Month
From Thursday June 1 to Sunday July 2, the region’s restaurants, farms, breweries and food businesses will unite to host 139 mouth-watering events for Scenic Rim Eat Local Month – the largest offering in the event’s 12 years. With the program now a month long, there is a smorgasbord of sumptuous events for foodies to feast on (more than half of which are new!), from vase making and vino tasting to sunset sipping and sheep racing. Some of Queensland’s most revered food names are getting involved, too – Queensland Food Fellow Alison Alexander, Picnic Real Food Bar’s Brenda Fawdon, Cameron Matthews from Mapleton Public House, Monstera Group’s Josh Lopez, and Moda’s Javier Codina, to name a few.
It’s no secret that Scenic Rim Eat Local Month is a gourmand’s playground, and this year’s paddock-to-plate offering is no exception. The event will be headlined by 37 long lunches, degustations and dinners, all of which have been custom created by local producers and chefs to celebrate the spectacular flavours and locations of the region. They’re not just limited to the Scenic Rim’s renowned eateries, either – we’re talking open-air dining under 120-year-old jacaranda trees, on dairies, atop mountains and amongst flower fields, olive groves and vineyards. Those who like to get a little hands on will be pleased to learn that this year’s program also features the event’s most diverse selection of workshops and classes – 43 of them, to be precise. Think edible-flower picking, gin blending, spirit distilling, floral-tea blending, gourmet mushroom growing and cooking, and fondant and charcuterie classes at The Paddock at Beechmont Estate. The 2023 program will also see 37 tours and experiences to be had (it wouldn’t be Scenic Rim Eat Local Month without farm tours and veggie picking!) and some incredible Meet the Producer events.
