Romiosini & Beyond

Romiosini & Beyond

Mikis Theodorakis is regarded as the greatest orchestral and choral composer in Greece’s musical history. Romiosini & Beyond celebrates his incredible body of work.

Romiosini, composed in 1966, is a cycle of nine well-loved songs for orchestra and voice based on the poetry of Lenin Peace Prize Winner Yiannis Ritsos; music of power and supplication and a moving tribute to Greece.

Theodorakis, who gave us the orchestral and choral masterpieces Axion Esti and Canto General, also composed the music to Zorba the Greek. The concert’s second half, Beyond, is dedicated to the maestro’s most popular songs performed by some of Australia’s best orchestral musicians specially selected for this performance.

Bringing Theodorakis’ music to life in the grandeur of QPAC’s Concert Hall will be international vocal soloist Dimitris Basis, Sydney Concertmaster Dimitris Calligeros, and internationally acclaimed orchestra conductor, composer and arranger (Musical Director and Conductor for the Athens Olympics) George Ellis.
