Roma Street Parkland – The Rainforest and Fern Gully
Need an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city? Head to Roma Street Parkland and cross through the misty Fern Gully Bridge to discover a subtropical rainforest on the other side.
As you descend the sloping circuit, a thick green canopy of woven ferns and figs will transport you into a lush oasis. Further along the trail, a trickling man-made creek will welcome you into Fern Gully, a thick green forest of ferns, figs and native plants. It’s here where you’ll discover local wildlife and the precinct’s impressive King Ferns – the Angioptresis evectra and Gymea Lilly.
Want to make a day of it? Bring along a rug and a picnic basket for a feast in the park. Enjoy a waterfront picnic on the nearby Forest Meadow or treat the family to a hot meal at one of the free barbecues. You’ll find more barbecues in the Celebration Precinct, a favourited spot that is surrounded by gorgeous frangipani trees and the jumping salmon water feature.
