Rohan Somasekaran & Helen Svoboda Live – Brisbane International Jazz Festival
Rohan Somasekaran is a hard swinging, soulful modern jazz pianist with a funky edge, who will set the jazz vibes pumping for one, free night of entertainment at the Queensland Multicultural Centre Auditorium.
Rohan’s influences include Herbie Hancock, Mulgrew Miller, Kenny Kirkland, Keith Jarrett, Wynton Kelly and Oscar Peterson. Rohan leads an exciting modern jazz duo with Helen Svoboda on double bass. The music performed by this duo is a combination of Rohan’s original compositions and modern jazz standard tunes. Rohan’s original compositions are influenced by the classic Blue Note jazz sound as well as Soul, R&B, Funk, and World music influences. This Duo plays jazz music for 2015 by respecting the jazz tradition but keeping its eyes towards the future.
The Brisbane International Jazz Festival has proudly unveiled its 2015 program, bringing together some of the finest talents in the genre from Norway, Poland, South Korea, Japan and more, as well as showcasing the best in home grown talent for the festival which takes over various locations in Brisbane from Wednesday June 3 to Monday June 8.
